Mountain Bike and Running Trails

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN

• Uphill Black (Most Difficult)
• Downhill Blue (Intermediate)
• Up - Beginning at the base of the Ski Area, this route uses either Mule Deer or the Competition Loop and then Falcon Ridge in its first two mile ascent. The trail splits at the 9160 foot mark and then climbs an additional 5.5 miles to the Peak
• Down - Decending from the top of Chair #1 , the trail intersects Falcon Ridge at 5.5 miles. Riders turn right on Falcon Ridge and return to the Base Area via Golden Eagle.
  

• Downhill Green (Easiest)
• This mountain bike trail consists of a downhill trail that begins at the top of Chair #1 and terminates at the base of the Ski Area. Although this is generally a beginner/intermediate track, some corners are challenging and may require dismounting. This trail is for downhill riding only.
  

• Uphill Blue (More Difficult)
• The uphill portion begins at the base of the Ski Area using Mule Deer as its ascent and then traverses the mountain to the 9160 elevation level. The downhill leg meets Golden Eagle trail above the Pond II area of the mountain and descends on Golden Eagle.
  

• Competition Loop Black (Most Difficult)
• This mountain bike trail runs counterclockwise and is the same system that is used for the Sandia Peak Mountian Bike Challenge Race Series as well as the Watermelon Mountain Classic.
  

• Level Green (Novice/Easiest)
• This is a gentle ride out and back to Highway 536 on a wide dirt road (3.5 miles). Riders with an intermediate+ fitness level may wish to turn left on the highway and continue to the Crest (1.5 miles). Facilities available at the Crest House.
  

• Level Green (Novice/Easiest)
• Out and back from the Base Area (1.9 miles), this is a wide gentle dirt road offering the inexperienced rider the opportunity to hone his or her skills before tackling the more advanced trails.
